SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

CATEGORIES Categories have been selected from software available on all LDCSB computers. Submissions will be accepted from the following software programs: Audacity BitStrips for Schools Frames 4 Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft Publisher Microsoft Word Photo Story 3 See Categories page for more ideas, tutorials, lesson plans, resources and details. Workshops will be offered from February to April to provide relevant P.D and to encourage first time teachers and classes to participate. We look forward to assisting you in any way possible, and to seeing some amazing Media Samples. Have fun creating!!! SUBMISSION RULES All submissions must reflect the Mission Statement of the London District Catholic School Board and the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations. Media content must be suitable for the general viewing audience of elementary and secondary students, parents, community and staff. Pieces under consideration must have been created by students during the 2010-2011 school year. Submissions to MediaFest are accepted until April 15, 2011. Due to restrictions in resources, we are only able to accept pieces that are no longer than 90 seconds. Projects may not contain copyright material. Limit of 3 samples of the same class project. NAMING AND SAVING FILES Media files must be named using the following pattern: school name(5 letters)_city(3 letters)_student’s last name(5 letters)grade Example: For a photo submission from: St Gabriel School, St Thomas, Jane Smith, Grade 5 The file would be submitted (use lower case) as: stgab_stt_smith5.jpg Teachers may wish to have students copy their files to a folder on their school L drive. Only teachers can copy files to the MediaFest folder on the M Drive for submission. SUBMITTING A MEDIAFEST ENTRY STEP 1: Copy the project file from your computer to your school's folder inside the MediaFest 2011 folder on the M drive My Computer/M:drive/CST-Technology/MediaFest2011/(your school folder) If you need assistance, please contact e.ernewein@office.ldcsb.on.ca or l.vandeven@office.ldcsb.on.ca STEP 2: One Parent Consent and Release form must be received for EACH student participant. STEP 3: Fill out one MediaFest Registration form for each submission. Click here to access the Registration form. RESTRICTIONS REGARDING MUSIC, IMAGES, etc... As part of each student’s faith development, Catholic Graduate Expectation 7A calls each student to be : “A responsible citizen who acts morally and legally as a person formed in Catholic traditions.” To value the work and creations of others, copyright laws contained in the Canadian Copyright Act must be followed. Therefore, projects may not contain copyright material. This includes: all media such as text, images, clipart, photos… Students *can* use media libraries associated with Board-provided software. ie: Microsoft Clipart, Frames 4 - clipart, photos, Bitstrips for Schools - characters and clipart, etc… All images taken from sources other than from Board provided software need to be referenced in the credits or on the project (author, title of work and website so that copyright can be checked). Although most websites allow for saving or downloading of images , these may be copyrighted. (ie: A Google search does not ensure legal use of material.) For more information about how to determine the copyright status of images on the internet visit... http://www.netknowhow.ca/nkhcrimg.html To avoid copyright issues, students are encouraged to take their own photos or scan their own artwork NOTE: It is the Teacher’s responsibility to ensure that submissions do not contain copyright materials as student work may be posted to the web. Projects with copyright issues will not be judged.
