The Standing Advisory Committee on Catholicity
"Ensuring a Distinctly Catholic Education"

The Standing Advisory Committee on Catholicity advises the Board with respect to ensuring the distinct Catholic character of the system.

In order to meet this aim, the Committee draws on the input from a wide range of Catholic community members.  The Committee consists of representatives drawn from all three counties (Oxford, Elgin, Middlesex) and the City of London. The Committee consists of the Board's Chaplain, Board Chair, a trustee, Faith Animator, Religion Coordinator, parents, a business representative, secondary and elementary teachers, an O.E.C.T.A. representative,  a secondary student, a Board ratepayer, secondary and elementary principals, a District School Council Executive representative, a representative from the faculty of education, the religious community, the Deanery and an executive liaison (a Board Superintendent).  Elected representatives serve a two year renewable term.

The Mandate

A key mandate of the London District  Catholic School Board is to provide:

  • A distinctly Catholic education for its students

  • A faith-centered learning environment that focuses on the spiritual as well as the intellectual development of its learners.

The Board's Mission Statement

To serve the Catholic student of London District in a community that nurtures a living faith and provides a quality Catholic education that enables the individual to become a contributing member of the Church and Society.

One of the key responsibilities of the Committee is to bring recommendations to the Board on any item that deals with the distinct Catholic character of the system.  For example, the Committee has made recommendations regarding Qualifications (Catholic components) for those seeking Positions of Added Responsibility with the Board. As well, it has formulated plans regarding the extension of Captaincy to the elementary schools and has addressed the need for a Faith Animator. The Committee has promoted increased communication with the Faculty of Education in order to support the preparation of teachers with religious education qualifications.

Many of the recommendations brought forth by Committee members are based on suggestions from the stakeholder groups in our community. In order to fulfill the Committee's mandate, the Committee recognizes the importance of innovative ideas that help build on the distinctive Catholic character of our school system.
