The students and teachers of St. Joseph's
Catholic School in Thamesford participated in a
barefoot (sock) Prayer Walk today. Prayers were
written by the grade 7/8 students who also prayed
the rosary while the rest of the student body
walked through the school. Our care and concern
for Haiti is ongoing as the Haitian people try
to put their lives back together.
Students were invited to bring a stuffed animal
to school to symbolize how we wish them comfort
and support during these days.
Students at St. Anthony French Immersion School
cuddled up with some good books to celebrate
Family Literacy Day and to help Haiti. Students
were allowed to wear pyjamas or comfy clothes
instead of their school uniforms in return for a
donation to Haitian relief. They also watched
French karaoke and listened to a Haitian folk
tale.
Thanks to the generosity of the students,
parents and staff, Sacred Heart Catholic
Elementary School in Parkhill, a school of 141
students, (73 families) was able to raise
$3700.00 in the past week. Helping to
bolster fundraising efforts was a generous
offer from two male teachers, Mr.
(Ms.) Zwambag and Mr. (Mrs.) Jones, who offered
to dress for the day in women's attire if the
school reached a monetary goal of
$1000.00.
As each goal was set and surpassed both teachers
added additional incentives, like makeup and
lipstick and eye shadow. With the total
amount raised exceeding all
expectations, the two "Angels"
were not only given makeovers but strutted their
stuff along with the entire school on Parkhill's
Main Street. (Above and right)
The students at St. Jude Catholic School in
London have been busy raising funds for the
people of Haiti. Over a very short period of
time Primary students collected pennies and
raised over $800 dollars!! Junior and
Intermediate students went wild with an auction
to turn staff into "Human Sundaes".
The students and audience had a terrific time
but most importantly over $2500 was collected
from this single event.
The entire St. Anne Catholic School community
(students, staff, parents) contributed in a way,
never at the school before. The "Helping
Hands for Haiti" campaign started with a
simple awareness and prayer service.
In only 4 days, the school community collected a
tub of loose coin, bills and cheques, totalling
to $1800.00 for the Canadian Red Cross. Student
leaders from the Student Parliament were very
proud of their social justice and ability to
help others in Haiti, at this very needy time.
Staff and students at the Centre for Lifelong
Learning have been reaching into their pockets
to help Haitian earthquake victims. And they
have a personal reason for helping. One of the
students attending the CLL is from Haiti and her
classmates wanted to help. The school collected
more than 500-dollars in all.
The staff and students of St. Vincent de Paul
participated in various school events to raise
money for Haiti. Everyone was asked to
donate $0.50 or more to participate in the days
events. The events included hat day, gum
day, spirit wear day, popcorn day and sport
jersey day. The goal was to raise $500 by
the end of the week. The students,
families and staff alike, donated a total of
$1024.45!
