The London District Catholic School Board has surpassed its United Way Campaign target for the sixth year in a row. A cheque for $122,914 dollars was presented today to the United Way Campaigns of London/Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford. It represents the collective efforts of staff and students who raised money through a variety of means: from payroll deductions to supporting United Way Football games; to Stair climbs and special events such as bakesales. "Many thanks to our staff representatives and all the members of the campaign committee. Your hard work and own generosity are gratefully received and appreciated," said Wilma de Rond, Director of Education and Chair of the LDCSB United Way Campaign. Students from John Paul ll helped with the presentation. (Above)

On Wednesday afternoon, 19 elementary teachers in the second year of the LDCSB New Teacher Induction Program gathered to learn more about the revised (2009) Arts curriculum document. Facilitated by Mary Holmes, Mary Intven Wallace, Brenda Collins, and Dympna Cybulski, this session provided the teachers with an opportunity to engage in and learn about two visual arts activities, a dramatic arts activity, and a dance activity. Each teacher was also provided with a variety of rich and engaging resources to bring back to their classrooms.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Middlesex-London Health Unit, Dr. Graham Pollett, thanked the Board for its ongoing support through the H1N1 Immunization Campaign and presented the Chair and Director with a plaque in appreciation. Clinics were held at three LDCSB schools. Dr. Pollett said the cooperation he received from the Board was amazing, despite the disruption the clinics caused at the schools,. “Without fail,” he said, “everyone involved at the School Board worked to assist us.”
