This week, the St. Mary School Choir and
Orchestra Program had a guest artist from
Canada's far north. Andrea Hansen is an
accomplished violin/fiddle player who works with
children in Canada's northern regions, bringing
fiddle music and musical instruction to them.
Andrea is a former violinist with the Toronto
Symphony who now spends her time with her
foundation called Strings Across the Sky. Andrea
played for our students and also worked with our
Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Mrs.
Mary Case while they played one of our favourite
fiddle pieces for her. Our own Grade 5 student,
Celine Murray, herself an accomplished violinist
at her young age of 10, played a duet with
Andrea to the tapping toes of the audience. Our
school raised $500.00 to donate to Strings
across the Sky, to help provide instruments and
music for children of Canada's north. St. Mary
School plays to maintain a connection with
Andrea Hansen and her organization to assist in
the sharing of string music to these remote
areas in the north.
Rebecca Faber, Children's Librarian from Beacock
Library, came to St. Anne School to tell the Sk-Grade
5 classes about the Summer Reading Club. This
year the theme is LOL or Laugh out Loud. The
children were told about the club and were
encouraged to join this free programme run by
the London Public Library.
Ms. Peternel's grade 2 students from St. Francis
London had a "beary" good time
decorating their bears, with help from their RMC
reading buddies from Penny Authier's class. The
grade 2 class would like to thank their buddies
for all their help this past semester and
congratulate them on their graduation.
An ice-cream soiree was the the cherry on top of
a year of delicious activities organized by St.
Anthony Catholic French Immersion School
Council. Parents, students and staff enjoyed
ice-cream and activities at the year-end event.
The school also received a cheque for $300 from
Boston Pizza for library resources.

On Friday, June 13 students in Mrs. Burrell's
CHW3M class hosted a Medieval Fair. The Fair
featured displays on The Black Death, The Role
of the Church, Feudalism, Wars and Conquests,
Knights and Chivalry, Medieval Castles, Medieval
Science and Health, William the Conqueror and
Ivan the Terrible. Each booth had a display,
skit/activity, pamphlet and culinary dish
appropriate to their topic. Students in Grades
10 and 11 classes visited the fair.
St. Francis Catholic School unveiled its new, accessible
play equipment today, built with the help of a
grant from Ronald McDonald House.
Holy Cross Elementary grade 4/5 and 5/6 classes
hosted two French Cafes. The students prepared
the food and were the servers at this French
style cafe. All the classes in the school
visited the cafe which raised $347.00. The money
raised was donated to Pedal for Hope which
raises money for Pediatric Cancer research.
Thank you to all who helped and contributed to
the success of this event.
Twenty two students joined the Forest of Reading Program at J.H. O'Neil School
Library this year. Students in the Silver Birch and Red Maple categories read
nominated titles and then voted for their favourite. The students wrote up
'blurbs' about each one and then earned a quilt square for every book read.
Altogether the students read 147 titles, making a wonderful quilt to fit a twin
size bed. One lucky student won the quilt to take home. The students picked the
fabric which has many leaf patterns and Mrs Plumb, the Librarian made the quilt
