Holy Week in the LDCSB

In preparation for Holy Thursday, Mrs. Simard's Grade 3/4 class at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School is re-enacting the stations of the cross. Pictured are stations 12, Jesus' death and station 15, His resurrection.
An Easter Message from the Director of Education

The Easter Season is the most hopeful time of year in our liturgical calendar - something that is very much needed in these times. We are witness to death of our Lord Jesus Christ for us. Then, we wait for and greet the warm, nurturing radiance of the resurrection's rays of glory.

The joy of Jesus' Resurrection embraces and uplifts us. That joy renews our life and restores our hope.

For those who struggle with the uncertainty of daily life, Jesus' Passion, Death, and Resurrection offer that hope.

In carrying His Cross, He carries ours as well. Through His Passion and Death, He takes upon himself the burdens that weigh us down and in so doing, He lifts us up to the glory of His Risen life.

This Easter, I pray that throughout our school district we will experience the joy and the power of Jesus' victory and that His love will come alive in us and abide with us always.

Together we celebrate Easter as a new beginning of our life in God and we rejoice in the radiance of that new dawn.

I hope that you and your family will be blessed this Easter Season with forgiveness, joy and resurrection - and above all, hope.

The SK students in Mrs. Buckley's class at St. Bernadette spent part of their morning reflecting then illustrating the Palm Sunday story.

Ms. Anthony's JK/SK class at  St. Gabriel's Catholic School did their teacher's  favourite religion lesson called "Palms Up!" After they created  palms, they set off outside to have their own Hosanna, Hurray for Jesus "parade". It was their own special Kindergarten way of celebrating Palm Sunday.

I Am The Vine and You Are The Branches - this short passage from the Gospel of John was not just shared with staff and students at Sacred Heart Catholic School through word, but it was lived out, all throughout the hallways of the school, as they were witnesses of Jesus through Lent. Real grapevine was strung from the front doorway, and affixed high above the passageways of the school. Each student received a special form with grapes and leaves on it - completing the phrase, with their own words, on how they could show and share Jesus' love through Lent to everyone around them. Once completed each student's Lenten message was hung from the grapevine. The activity - started at the beginning of Lent - proved to be an interactive and meaningful way of bringing one of the Gospel's to life for the students. It also offered every student, staff member and visitor to the school, an opportunity to read and see how students have been able to demonstrate various Catholic Graduate Expectations.

At St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Lucan, the Grade 3/4 class of Mrs. Martens class performed a Stations of the Cross play for the school. (Above)
