Council of All Beings Tackles

Environmental Issues

"Sometimes when humans spray with pesticides, it gets in our feathers and makes us sick,"  said the
Barn Owl and it is a very wise owl, indeed.

The Bear nodded its furry head. "Chemicals could kill all of the animals,"  said the bear.

The Board room at the Catholic Education Centre was filled  with creatures of every description on Wednesday - from bears to cats to eagles to songbirds to owls.  Grade 5 & 6 students from throughout the board came together for the Council of All Beings Enrichment Program, each with a home-made mask, representing an animal.
The program involved four sessions, which  were held at various sites. Students embarked on a journey of learning about themselves, the environment, and working in groups. Each student chose a 'Being' from Southwestern Ontario to research and to become. They discovered environmental conditions which are necessary to allow their Being to thrive.
In the final gathering this week, 'Beings' debated their resolutions in a forum similar to the United Nation. (and as one observer noted, the animals are not too pleased with the job we humans are doing with the environment) Students enjoyed the experiences as they further developed their Stewardship to All Creation.
