Celebrating the
Earth
Students Make a Difference on
Earth Day
Our students made a huge difference on Earth
Day, fanning out to clean up their school yards and communities,
planting trees, taking litter less lunches, recycling and
doing a thousand things that will make the planet a better
place. We profiled many of their activities throughout Earth
Day on the Board website - a constantly updating parade of images
that highlighted their projects. To see some of the amazing things
they did, click HERE.
Above, Mrs.
Burnett-Cooke's class read the book "Mother Earth"
at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. As an extension of their
learning, students presented their globes created in a circle with
their very own spider plants as a base. They all gathered in union
celebrating the beautiful world we live in!
Earth Day is the largest, most celebrated environmental
event worldwide. More than six million Canadians joined one
billion people in over 170 countries in staging events and projects
to address local environmental issues. Nearly every school child in
Canada will take part in an Earth Day activity.
First launched as an environmental waitress event in the United Sates
in 1970, Earth Day is celebrated as the birth of the environmental
movement.
On
February 1 the new Keeping Our Kids Safe at School Act (Bill
157) came into force. This legislation supports the London District
Catholic School Board's belief that all members of our school
community - staff, students, parents, and community agencies - have
a role to play in making our schools a safe place in which to learn.

safe and what parents should know. Click on the Bulletin Board

Catholic School Trustees Association has provided the booklet "Becoming
a Catholic School Trustee" as well as a pamphlet entitled
"A
Call to Service." Please open the links for more
information.
