Catholic
Education Week Will Highlight the Activities in our Schools
Catholic Education Week
begins on Sunday, with the theme this year of "Rejoicing in
Hope."
The Five Sub Themes for the 2010 Catholic Education Week are:
Hope in our Hearts; Hope in our
Homes; Hope in our Schools; Hope
in our Communities and Hope in our
World.
There will be special events in every school as the London District
Catholic School Board highlights the distinctive nature of Catholic
Education. Here are some of the highlights of the week:
Catholic Education Week
will begin with the official opening and blessing of St.
Anne's Catholic Elementary School in St. Thomas on
Sunday at 2 p.m.. The school opened its doors in
September with an enrolment of 530 students. It amalgamates
students from the St. Gabriel's Catholic Elementary School and
St. Raphael's Catholic Elementary School communities. Bishop
Ronald Fabbro will do the blessing.
Monday night will see the
Spirit Awards presented at St. Joseph's High School in St.
Thomas. The Spirit Award recognizes abilities and excellence
of a student from each school of the London District Catholic
School Board during Catholic Education Week.
Also Monday, the 2010
Stewards in Catholic Education Award will be presented to a
graduate of St. Joseph’s High School who has been involved
in social justice projects in Canada, Kenya and Haiti. This
year's winner is Brittnei Berrisford, who is graduating this
spring from the University of Guelph. This is the seventh year
for the system’s highest award - an initiative to profile
London District Catholic School Board Graduates who live the
Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations.
The school communities of
St. Bernadette, Holy Cross and St. Sebastian will celebrate an

About 250 LDCSB students
walked through the streets of London on Wednesday in the 20th annual Walk Against
Male Violence. The students, from five of our secondary schools,
visited the Peace Garden and marched through the downtown before
ending in Harris Park. They raised seven thousand dollars in pledge
money, which will go to support the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre and
two schools in Afghanistan. Students at St.
Joseph's High School in St. Thomas participated in the Walk Against Male Violence
for the first time. The students
had a strong showing in their first walk with 80 participants who
raised over $3200 for the cause.

On
February 1 the new Keeping Our Kids Safe at School Act (Bill
157) came into force. This legislation supports the London District
Catholic School Board's belief that all members of our school
community - staff, students, parents, and community agencies - have
a role to play in making our schools a safe place in which to learn.

safe and what parents should know. Click on the Bulletin Board
