Parents, teachers and students are being asked
for input on an always hot topic: homework. A new survey online this
week asks for opinions from all groups as to what is enough? How
much is too much? And Do we even need homework at all?
Both the London District Catholic School
Board and the Thames Valley District School Board have placed the
survey on their respective websites that asks parents, school
staffs, and students their opinion on the often-controversial issue.
(Links to the survey on the LDCSB website are listed below and in
the Bulletin Board section on the front page)
"Homework is one of those topics about
which nearly everyone has an opinion," said John Mombourquette,
Senior Administrator of Program - Learning Services. Both Boards
hope that the survey generates some informed discussion that will
help guide any future policies or guidelines on homework assignment.
A forum in May will bring together
educators, community leaders and agencies involved with children and
youth where the results of the survey will be presented. The London
Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa is helping to organize this event.
