One of the many outings for Holy Cross
Physical Education students this year was a visit to Circle
"R" Ranch near Delaware to go cross country skiing. In an
effort to expose students to an interesting and diverse program, all
in the pursuit of leading a Healthy Active Lifestyle, these grade
eleven and twelve students were trained in the morning by Ian at
Circle "R" and they later followed Mr. Moran on a scenic
and challenging excursion in the afternoon.
Conference
Attracts 230 Delegates
A conference in London this week - last night
and today - will determine how school boards and community agencies
can establish or enhance partnerships that will better meet the
needs of students with moderate to complex mental health issues.
It's part of a positive change that is
taking place in Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties that will
improve access to mental health services for students and their
families. It is called the Student Support Leadership (SSL)
initiative and is a response to the changes in the safe schools
provisions in the Education Act which came into effect in February
2008.
Funding is being provided by the Ministry
of Education and the Ministry of Children & Youth Services over
a three-year period (2007-2010) to support this initiative. The work
began last year and invites community agencies and school boards to
achieve their goals.
Today's conference is the first major project
of this working initiative and is called "Possibilities -
Supporting Children Together."
It attracted delegates from the London District Catholic School Board
the Thames Valley District School Board, and 25 agencies in Middlesex,
Elgin and Oxford Counties involved in child welfare. It will result
in tangible goals and action items that will shape the next two
years of this promising initiative.
Celebrating Those Who Have Made a
Difference!
This will be the sixth year of an initiative to profile London
District Catholic School Board Graduates who live the Ontario
Catholic Graduate Expectations. Those selected must be
secondary school graduates of the London District Catholic School
Board or its predecessor Boards. They must demonstrate impact in
professional and/or personal life in the following areas: spiritual,
academic, aesthetic, social, or physical; demonstrate fulfillment of
the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations; and demonstrate
stewardship in Catholic Education. Nominators must complete a
nomination form, signed by the nominee and submitted to John Boles
at the Catholic Education Centre by February 28th, 2009. (Printable
nominations forms are available HERE).
There is a limit of one nomination per nominator. A Selection
Committee will review all nominations and make a final decision
based on the criteria. The graduate (s) will be profiled in
Spotlight, on the Board Website and during Education Week. This is
your opportunity to publicly honour someone you know who has made a
difference in the world around them! A list of previous winners is
available Here.
