A Tribute from the Skies

St. Mark Catholic Elementary School paid special tribute today to a student who died of Leukemia last month. It included a fly-by by 17 planes involved in the St. Thomas Air Show and a performance by eight members of the Canadian Forces Skyhawks Skydiving Team, who parachuted into the schoolyard. Katie was in Grade 2 at the school. Her Father, who is an organizer with the St. Thomas Air Show, arranged for the "fly-by" and the Skyhawks' appearance. The school also planted a tree in Katie’s memory.

A Major Accomplishment for Notre Dame
Catholic Elementary School!

The "Cops for Cancer Pedal for Hope" cycling team made a special trip to Notre Dame Catholic Elementary School  this morning, to celebrate the fact that the school  is this year’s winner of the grand prize for raising the most amount of money per student.

Notre Dame was presented with a SMART Board donated by Duplicom Presentation Systems.

The team arrived at 10:30 this morning, with high-fives all around (Right) and a picture-taking opportunity (Above) with the whole school population.  The students did a whole range of fund-raising activities, including raffling off the chance to be Principal for a half-day.  They were inspired by one of their class-mates, who has been undergoing treatment for cancer.

St. Paul Catholic Elementary School celebrated its second annual "Parade of Champions' today. A crowd of  students marched through their Oakridge Park neighbourhood, carrying signs and cheering.  They were accompanied by six vehicles - three convertibles, two pickup trucks and a Harley. (Above and below)  Principal Pat Gowdy joined the parade in a (borrowed) Porsch. St. Paul won the overall school championship at the Hans Janssen Memorial rack and Field  Meet this year - among its many other accomplishments.
