Blessing St. Nicholas Catholic Church
Little Church Will Have a Big Impact

St. Nicholas Catholic Church was welcomed this week as the newest addition to the YMCA Children’s Safety Village. Director of Education Wilma de Rond and Andrew Lockie, VP of Camping and Education Services at the village, unveiled a plaque that identifies the church. Board Chaplain, Fr. Jim Mockler, blessed the church as a group of children from Holy Family Catholic Elementary School looked on.
The Catholic Principals Council of Ontario funded the pad upon which this church is sitting. The students from the Construction Work Experience Program and their teachers, Eric Orchard and Bill Lee, (Above) framed the church and moved it to its new site. A team of steady-handed volunteers - teachers, superintendents, principals, family members and even the Director - gave of their time to put the finishing touches on the church.

Congratulations to Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, which  has been ranked among the top 75 schools in Canada for placing 70th in the University of Toronto Biology Competition held in early May. The competition involved approximately 6000 students from across the country. Twenty-seven MTS students competed and our top five students placed us in the winning category. Our highest competitor, Leah Sinai, scored in the 96th percentile and has been honoured as a National Biology Scholar for scoring within the top 200 students. The other five members of our winning team who all ranked near or above the 90th percentile include Matthew Dietrich, Sean Watson, MIchael Gverzdys, and Theresa Tingey. Mother Teresa is the only high school in the city of London to be ranked by the U of T this year. Congratulations to our Spartan Scientists!
More than Eight thousand student athletes took part in the annual Hans Janssen Memorial Track and Field Meet this week at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the UWO Campus. For more pictures and results, see this week's Spotlight Sports Pages.
