Students from three LDCSB schools were part
of Canada's largest ever March for Life in Ottawa. The
march drew more than 120-thousand people in all to Parliament Hill.
The LDCSB delegation included 17 students from John Paul II and
eight from Saint Mary's. In addition there were
three former Saint Thomas Aquinas students, youth from Parkhill
Youth group and a number of students from Holy Trinity in Simcoe.
In total, there were 52 people on the bus - 46 young people and 6
adult chaperones.
Ann Clarke, chaplain at Saint Mary's organized the trip this
year. The students described it as a wonderful experience and gave
very in-depth reflections of their feelings and their perceptions at
the end of the trip. Many were touched by the speakers , especially
one given by Melissa Ohden, an abortion Survivor.
The students attended Mass at Saint Theresa's, followed by a candle
light vigil. They also attended Mass at Saint Patrick's
Cathedral, then walked to Parliament Hill for the Rally and
March.
"The trip opened my eyes to make me
realize I can make a difference and a change in society. Before the
trip I was against abortion but I still thought in certain
situations women should be able to make the choice, but I realize
now, that they're making a decision for someone who can't speak for
themselves. Marching through Ottawa gave me a feeling I couldn't
begin to describe. People yelled against us but we held our heads
high, said a prayer for them, and kept going. The trip was filled
with laughter, tears, and moments that I will never
forget."

"It opened up my eyes. I now
realize how fortunate and blessed I am that my parents choose life
for me. I know how, horrible abortion really is. Thank you for this
amazing experience, I want to go next year with my
mom."

Hundred of students from many
of our schools took part in the third annual Rosary Rally at
St. Peter's Cemetery in London yesterday, to mark the birthday of
Pope John Paul ll and to honour Mary, mother of God. Many
schools, both elementary and secondary, took part in the praying of
the rosary along the walkway.
Last Friday, staff and students held a
peaceful demonstration , at the corner of Oxford and Highbury, to
bring awareness to the public regarding this Human Rights injustice
in the country of Burma. (Please check out Burma V.J. You Tube
videos.) Today there was a lunchtime Arrest Yourself
Project , with administration, staff and students being arrested and
having to be bailed out of Jail. (Right)
The arrestees were very good sports. Thanks
to Mr. Delle Donne, Mr. Min, Mr Lamoureux and Students Josh Penney,
Gabbie Coleman and Kayla Sibbald. Mr. Delle Donne and Kayla Sibbald
were successfully released and the others were given a suspended
sentence after performing singing and dancing routines. A very
positive beginning to a long weekend. All proceeds go to Canadian
Friends of Burma

On
February 1 the new Keeping Our Kids Safe at School Act (Bill
157) came into force. This legislation supports the London District
Catholic School Board's belief that all members of our school
community - staff, students, parents, and community agencies - have
a role to play in making our schools a safe place in which to learn.

safe and what parents should know. Click on the Bulletin Board
