Catholics  across the globe gave thanks yesterday for the gift that is Catholic education through the celebration of World Catholic Education Day. This year's theme was In God's Word, I Put My Hope
Catholic education has served nations for centuries through teaching students in their faith, says the Canadian Catholic School Trustees' Association. Throughout Canada, provinces, territories and dioceses dedicate special days or weeks to celebrate Catholic education. In keeping with these celebrations, World Catholic Education Day is a time for Catholics around the world to take a moment to pause, reflect and pray on the gift that is Catholic education. A bus with 34 students and chaperones from 4 LDCSB  high schools (St. Mary's, John Paul II, STA and Holy Cross)  travelled to Ottawa for 3 days to attend the National March for Life activities and Youth Conference 2009. The focus of these activities to make a statement that the killing of a child in the womb is wrong and should be made illegal in our country. They met with Bishop Fabbro at Notre Dame Cathedral after Mass, where there were approximately 40 priests, 6 bishops and a cardinal concelebrating Mass.
The students joined crowds estimated at 12,000 for the March beginning at Parliament Hill and through the streets of downtown Ottawa for this peaceful demonstration to state that every child has the right to life.
