More than sixty new
teachers marked one year of service in Catholic
Education this week, with a Eucharistic
Celebration and Commissioning Ceremony at St.
George Catholic Church. The new teachers were
given bibles to celebrate their first year with
the London District Catholic School Board.
(Left) It was the culmination of their participation
in the New Teacher Induction Program and was
followed by a reception with their
mentors, principals, families and friends.

Board Chair John Ferris told the new teachers
they have already touched the lives of hundreds
of students. "You each bring with you your
own unique gifts, " he said. "You
bring to our board a new enthusiasm that gives
us a renewed sense of vigour and purpose. You
renew us and keep us strong."
Wilma de Rond, Director of Education, told
the new teachers they are the future of Catholic
education. "I hope that you will continue
to work with me, our principals, vice
principals, trustees and superintendents to
provide the very best Catholic education to the
students and parents of our system," she
said. "I think we have many great things to
accomplish and you are the future of our
board."

"Catholic
education was built on a foundation of selfless
work by the sisters, priests and brothers.
Theirs was the story of struggle and sacrifice,
to sustain a system on meagre finances and
resources. They did sustain it through some very
lean times and helped it take root and grow into
the powerful gift it is today. It is to you that
they have passed the torch."

Ferris, Board Chair
"I hope that
you have not only focused on literacy and
numeracy but also on the literacy of our faith
as you must pass on this enduring gift to the
next generation."
...Wilma
de Rond, Director of Education
"I Challenge
you to participate in the building of an educational
system in which God's spirit continues to be
experienced in every aspect of your
profession."
To serve the Catholic
student in a community that nurtures a living faith
and provides a quality Catholic education that enables the individual to
become a contributing member of the Church and Society.
