Catholic Education Week Highlights all There is to Celebrate!

Catholic Education Week 2010 is history now, but it leaves behind many enduring images.  It was a whirlwind of liturgies and special events involving virtually ever single student and staff member. The theme this year was "Rejoicing in Hope."
The Five Sub Themes were: Hope in our Hearts;  Hope in our Homes;  Hope in our Schools; Hope in our Communities and Hope in our World.   There were special events in every school as the London District Catholic School Board highlighted the distinctive nature of Catholic Education.  For the details, scroll through these pages.

This year Stewards in Catholic Education Award – the system’s highest award - was presented on Monday evening to Brittnei Berrisford, a graduate of St. Joseph's High School. She responded to the honour in a video speech, because she is currently in Haiti serving as a volunteer at an orphanage. She has also served the poor in Kenya and in her own country. This is the seventh year for the award, an initiative to profile London District Catholic School Board Graduates who live the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations. The award was present at the Spirit Awards at St. Joseph's  High School. The Spirit Award recognizes abilities and excellence of a student from each school of the London District Catholic School Board during Catholic Education Week.

"I do not participate in these trips or programs to boost my resume or receive a pat on the back; I truly believe this is my calling. I am striving to witness social justice in my lifetime, in OUR lifetime. I have seen my actions improve the lives of few; however if everyone did a little something,  the effect could be astronomical. I live daily by Ghandi’s quote 'Be the change you wish to see in the world'... and I encourage you to reflect on this as well."

On February 1 the new Keeping Our Kids Safe at School Act (Bill 157) came into force. This legislation supports the London District Catholic School Board's belief that all members of our school community - staff, students, parents, and community agencies - have a role to play in making our schools a safe place in which to learn.
