Schools across the LDCSB celebrated
Canadian children's books this week and the importance of reading.
Authors, illustrators, and storytellers have been visiting our
schools as part of the annual Canadian Children's Book Week
celebration. The theme this year, Gold Medal Reading,
celebrates sports in preparation for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games,
which will be held in Vancouver, BC. Top, Grade one students at
Monsignor Morrison were very excited to receive their complementary
books
Miss DiBella's (below) and Mrs. Legge’s
Grade 1
students (Above) at Blessed Kateri Catholic Elementary School kicked off
Canadian Children’s Book Week by receiving their very own copy of
Let’s Go! The Story of Getting from There to Here. The TD Bank
Financial Group has, once again, provide every grade one child
across Canada with a book written by Canadian author Lizann Flatt.
I In celebration of Canadian
Children's Book Week, the students of Monsignor Morrison
School were treated to an author visit from Werner Zimmermann.
(Right and below) His entertaining stories and illustrations were a big hit with
all the students from grades 1-4.
Werner Zimmermann also
captivated the students of Assumption School with his humour,
artwork and animation. He demonstrated his talent for drawing
and shared stories telling the students he was not always good
at drawing but persevered. (Below)
Grade One students at St. Anthony School
thought their new TD Canadian Children's Book Week souvenir On y va!
was "magnifique". Every Grade One student in the province
received an English or French copy of the book Let's Go as part of
the "A Book for Me for the Pleasure of Reading" program.
The whole school were involved in a draw for Canadian books to
commemorate the special week to honour Canadian authors and topics.
Below, the Grade Ones from St. George proudly display their new
book.
