Blessing Our School
Hundreds Celebrate the Blessing of St. Patrick's School

There was a full house last night for the official blessing of the new addition and renovations to St. Patrick's Catholic Elementary School in Woodstock. The work has turned the school, which was built in 1965,  into what is essentially a brand new school and a new home to about 270 students.

The nine-classroom expansion and renovation includes a new foyer, administrative offices, a bigger library and  a complete renovation of the school's mechanical, electrical and ventilation systems. It also means a new staffroom, kindergarten classrooms and a resource room.

Fr. Augustine Ogundele blessed the crucifixes that will hang in each classroom.  He told a crowd of students, parents and guests that filled the gym that Catholic schools represent the salt and the light.

Board Chair John Ferris said a great deal of credit has to go to the hard work of Oxford Trustee Cliff Roach.

"To open a new school addition is one of the happiest events that a school board can experience," said Mr. Ferris. " It is a time of new beginnings, of promise for the future and of hope. These renovations and additions will only make a very good school even better."

"Look around, you have a brand new school," he said.

What they said....

"You should be very proud of what you have accomplished. I can assure you the Board of Trustees shares with you that sense of pride."

"A lot of people were upset about amalgamation but I think it was the best thing that ever happened to Oxford County."

"A Catholic school is made up of the hopes, dreams and faith of generations of school children - nurtured and brought to life by all of their teachers, support staff and administrators."
