Thanksgiving in Our Schools

Holy Cross elementary celebrated Thanksgiving Mass. Mrs. Cajax's Grade 1 class and Mr. Tomas' Grade 7/8 class lead the celebration. Everyone was reminded of all the things we have to be thankful for. We were reminded that we should give thanks everyday and not just on Thanksgiving.

St. Michael's in Woodstock celebrates a community lunch to remember all that God has given us. The Catholic School Advisory Council provided funds and an army of volunteers helped to make a hot turkey dinner for every student , staff and quest in the building continuing a long standing tradition in the school community.
A Thanksgiving Message from the Director of Education:

Dear Staff, students, families and members of the London District Catholic School Board Community:

Let us celebrate all the bounties and blessings we have received this year:

Every day there are occasions to thank God for the many blessings that He has showered upon us: the gifts of nature, the gifts of love, the gifts of food for our bodies and nourishment for our souls.

We thank Him for the greatest gift of all - Jesus Christ, God's Son and the gift of Life everlasting.

Please remember our men and women who are serving our country and cannot be with their loved ones this year, as well as our families who have recently suffered losses of are coping with an illness.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
 ~I Chronicles 16:34

Happy Thanksgiving,

Once again this year the students and staff of St. Rita Catholic School were treated to a turkey dinner with all the fixings! The complete meal was supplied by the Catholic School Council. Students and staff were asked to bring in food for the "canned food drive" to support Operation Sharing. A big thank you to everyone who helped to make the day a success.

All staff and students at Monsignor O'Neil gathered in the gym yesterday to celebrated a Thanksgiving Meal with all the trimmings.

Thanksgiving was celebrated at the Centre for Lifelong Learning yesterday with a turkey luncheon in the gym and our cafeteria prepared and served by Chartwells staff. There was tremendous participation from students and staff from St. Patrick's Campus, 383 Richmond, and the Springbank Centre with over 300 people attending . Both trustees Pat Smith (trustee responsible for adult education) and Sandra Cruz (trustee for our area of the city - Ward 4) made time from their busy schedules to join in the celebration. This annual event is a great opportunity for  students and staff to break bread together and give thanks for all our blessings. Principal Jim Martin welcomed everyone and said Grace. Special thanks to Jan Staples, Elizabeth Collingwood and her Specialized Language Training Hospitality Class who arranged, set up and took down the tables, chairs, and decorations with the assistance of our Charge Custodian, Frank Defelice. Also special thanks to our Office Staff, Sandy Rose, Sonia DiProspero, and Bethany Bell, who took care of the tickets sales and promotions. Everyone enjoyed the event and said they are looking forward to returning in December for our Christmas Coffee House.

St. Mary's West Lorne celebrated Thanksgiving dinner on Wed. Oct.8th. The staff and students enjoyed a home made old fashioned turkey dinner. A great time was had by all! St. Michael Catholic School (London) gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving yesterday  in the church hall. A feast with all the trimmings was prepared for the students and staff by a large number of parent volunteers, retired teachers and community members.(Above)  A meal fit for a king and queen.

Mrs. Peri's JK class at Assumption Catholic School made some yummy, edible turkeys.

In preparation for Thanksgiving, Miss Heard's Grade 1 at St. Paul Cathol;ic Elementary School class made turkeys. Mrs. McCormack, student teacher from Ste. Marguerite D'Youville taught the lesson.
A Tribute to a Fallen Soldier

The City of London has named a park in honour of Trooper Mark Wilson, who was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan two years ago. The official dedication of Trooper Mark Wilson Park was held in North London this week, as his family, friends, supporters and fellow soldiers looked on. More than 30 members of the Royal Canadian Dragoons -- Mark Wilson's regiment -- attended the event in uniform. Above, two soldiers in ceremonial scarlet uniforms led the family on a tour of the park. The London District Catholic School Board planted three trees in the park: two for the schools Mark Wilson attended – St. Robert and CCH - and one in support of his family. Mark’s father, Carl Wilson, is a former principal and teacher. The St. Mary Choir School Grade 7 choir sang during the dedication. Two of the students from St. Robert who won the Trooper Mark Wilson Award were at the ceremony.

(To visit the park, drive north on Wonderland Road to Sunningdale Road. Turn Right and then immediately right again into a subdivision which is very much under construction. The park will be on you left)
