Literacy is a Family Affair

The London District Catholic School Board recently sponsored a FAMILY LITERACY CONFERENCE at John Paul; ll Catholic Secondary School with the focus on getting family members top experience the fun of learning.  The target group was students and their families from the London District Catholic School Board. Some 30 workshops were presented,  covering multiple literacies, and there was something for everyone. They included Kitchen Fun (Promoting literacy in the kitchen with delicious results) Dancing Latino and sure fire methods to hook children on the joy of reading. "Schools are only one of the important pillars necessary to provide a sound foundation for the development of reading," said Wilma de Rond, Director of Education.  "The family is the primary support for literacy throughout a child's life."  "Literacy has much to do with relating to the world around us - text and images in many forms as well as relationships that support that learning and that connection" said Chris Quinn, Coordinator of English and Literacy.  He said this year's was the best-attending Family literacy Conference yet."
