Our Students Take on the World!

Runner Jessica Parry and wrestler Steven Takahashi have the support of their whole school as they prepare to represent Canada at the Commonwealth Youth Games. The Games are being held in Pune, India from October 12th to 18th. 

Above, the two athletes get some words of encouragement from Catholic Central Principal Donna Hammond. Jessica won gold medals in both the women's 800 and 1500 metre races at the Canadian Junior championships held in Abbotsford B.C. Steven recently won the boys 50 kilogram gold at the FILA cadet championships in El Salvador. Both CCH student are also OFSAA Gold Medal winners in their sports. 

The Youth Games are a run up and a trial event to the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in Delhi. More than 1,300 athletes and 350 officials from 71 countries will participate in these games, in 9 disciplines - Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling are included in the Commonwealth Youth Games 2008. Pune is renowned for hosting several world class events, including India’s oldest Marathon.
