A Welcome from Bishop
Ronald Fabbro
"We
know that one person can make an enormous difference."
The Most Rev. Ronald Peter Fabbro,
Bishop of London, issued a special "welcome back" message
to students and staff today, saying that each of us can make a
difference in the world. "God gives you gifts and talents to
make this world a better place," said the Bishop. "Our
Catholic schools are committed to supporting you in living out this
call that God gives each of you - to bring Christ to our world, to
bring His love and forgiveness, to be witnesses of justice and
compassion to reach out to the poor with His message of good
news."
Bishop Fabbro said Catholic schools will provide the best education possible
and help students to learn more about their faith and to grow in
their faith. "I want to acknowledge the dedication of your
teachers, of the staffs of your schools, the principals and all of
those in your school who are there to be with you," he said to
students. "I thank them for the Christian witness they
are giving you both inside and outside the classroom."
As a member of the Basilian religious order,
Bishop Fabbro has an extensive background and interest in education.
He has taught at Saint Mary’s College, Sault Ste. Marie; Saint
Joseph’s College (University of Alberta), Edmonton; the University
of Saint Michael’s College, Toronto; and still occasionally
lectures at St. Peter’s Seminary, London.
Bishop Fabbro’s commitment to education also is expressed in the
Pastoral Plan for the Diocese of London. The second goal,
Evangelizing and Teaching, says that, “called by Christ, we will
evangelize through the clear proclamation of the Gospel and the
constant teaching of the Catholic faith, assuring that such
proclamation and teaching is linked to the life experience of the
people.”
A spokesperson for the Diocese of
London says strong link between school and parish is vital, not just
for the students and educators, but for the parents and wider
community as well.
This message may also be shown through your classroom video
system or as a possible addition to your beginning of school year
assemblies.
