Embracing the Earth - Caring for Creation:

Look what our Eco Teams are Doing!

St. Pius X Environmental Activities 2007/2008

This year the St. Pius X Environmental Club had a mission to educate themselves and their fellow students on environmental issues and to serve their community. They did each of these things by researching local and international environmental organizations and choosing the organizations they wanted to raise awareness of and money for. This year the club had two bake sales which raised $111.00 for the Upper Thames Conservation Authority for tree planting and $105.00 to adopt a Florida Panther (since we're the St. Pius X Panthers!). Students also educated their school by making presentations about environmental issues at monthly assemblies and creating displays for bulletin boards in the school. Another activity the students took part in was cleaning up the area around their school community by picking up garbage in the fall and spring. A monthly activity that the whole school takes part in is recycling in their classrooms and the class who does the best job is awarded the Golden Can Award for that month. Overall the Environmental Club has had a successful year and we're already looking forward to exploring and learning about the environment
next year!

St. Anne School has a very active Eco Club. Throughout the year, the club has worked diligently to keep our compost program moving nicely, with the assistance of the custodian. Also, more recently, they have helped him with the Spring gardens around the school, including assistance with the mulch and raking. On May 30, the Eco Club will be helping with the Reforestation Project, taking place at our school. Several trees will be planted to develop a naturalized component to our playground. We look forward to this day and to the continuation of our Eco awareness at St. Anne School.
