WELCOME, SIMON JACKSON!
Simon Jackson, founder of the 6-million-strong Spirit Bear Youth Coalition, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the Monsignor O'Neil School community during Earth Week! Simon shared his inspirational story, which has also been made into a CTV documentary, with a packed crowd and presented a clear example of the difference one person can make.
Simon founded the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition at the age of 13 in the quest to unite the voices of young people to save British Columbia's endangered white Kermode, or Spirit Bear, helping raise international awareness about the plight of this bear. His passion helped make the issue the most supported conservation initiative in Canadian history and has been recognized by Time Magazine as one of the most critical environmental issues facing our planet. Simon Jackson has been Time Magazine's "Hero for the Planet" and is Executive Producer of the forthcoming Hollywood animated movie, "The Spirit Bear."
Simon's presentation to the Monsignor O'Neil community proved to be inspirational, motivational, and educational. The students lined up for autographs and Simon obliged by writing a special message to each individual student. As the highlight of this week of environmental awareness, Simon accentuated our school's theme of Interdependence and, on a wider focus, the Catholic Graduate Expectation of being responsible citizens.
Having been so fortunate to host such a significant guest, the community of Monsignor O'Neil School are all believers in the "Power of One."
