Bienvenue! Welcome!

Our school takes its name from St. Anthony of Padua, a Portuguese Catholic saint born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1195. Anthony of Lisbon (or Padua) is known to have become the “quickest” saint in the history of the Catholic Church because he was canonized by Pope Gregory IX less than one year after his death on the 30th of May 1232.
St. Anthony’s fame spread as much as the Portuguese evangelization and he has been known as the most celebrated of the followers of Saint Francis of Assisi. He is the patron saint of Padua, Italy and of many other places in Portugal and in the countries of the former Portuguese Empire. He is especially invoked for the recovery of lost things.

St. Anthony Catholic is a single track French Immersion school. All of our students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 are encouraged to speak French from the moment they arrive at school. We believe that to become proficient in French, the students must be exposed to the language at all times. They must be allowed to experience the language in the classroom setting and during special events. The goal of the French Immersion program at St. Anthony is the development of French listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in an atmosphere that promotes the Catholic faith. Initially, the
emphasis is on listening and speaking. Reading and writing take on a more prominent role as skills develop and students mature intellectually.

French Immersion programs are designed for students of non-French speaking parents, therefore all
communication between home and school is in English. A student who successfully completes a French
Immersion program through to graduation from secondary school is expected to be able to take
university level courses in French.
