Our class has been asked by a vehicle manufacturing
company to design and build several models for new vehicles
that are environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The
vehicle must also be safe for public use.
|
You are going to design and build a vehicle
that is environmentally friendly, energy effificient, and
safe for public use. It will have to undergo rigorous testing
before being sold (i.e. strength of the vehicle frame, ability
of the frame to carry a small load, ability of the wheels
to rotate freely).
The vehicle must fit the criteria outlined by the manufacturing
company
-must have a hinged part
-must have a wheel and axle mechanism
-must travel forward and backward
-must have safety features
-must be visually pleasing
As part of the task, builders are expected
to gather, record and display all data on their vehicles’
test performance. This information is to be included as part
of a written report which is to be completed and submitted
to the manufacturer.
Builders are also required to create an
advertisement which promotes the outstanding features of their
vehicle for the school community’s Auto Trader magazine.

- There are all kinds of things you can
use to build a vehicle.
The recycling bin at home, in your classroom and school
will be a great source of materials you can use!
|
Here is a rubric
that your teacher may use to evaluate your project.
|
Put a few sentences here that summarize what you have
accomplished or learned by completing this activity or lesson.
What have you learned?
Did anything in this task trouble you?
What might you do differently given the opportunity to do
a similar task again?
Include questions for reflection, journal writing, self-assessment...
You might also include some rhetorical questions or additional
links to encourage them to extend their thinking into other
content beyond this lesson. To foster the habit of lifelong
learning, give them links to additional information here that
they can pursue on their own.
