Creating Your Market Place Banner

Purpose: During the Middle Ages, many people, regardless of social standing, did not have the ability to read or write. Because of this, above shop doors the crafts people would have a banner explaining their craft to make it easy for everyone to identify their business.  For example, a cobbler would  show a boot, a ring for the goldsmith, bread for the baker.
