Introduction:

What is the context for this scenario?

Whilst thou be so kind as to join us on a journey?    Together, let us enter the realm of the Medieval World, experiencing life with all of its hardships and pleasantries, festivals and battles.

The Royal Family is introducing its most prize possession to the village -  Princess Elise. The Princess has just turned 10 and she would like to venture into the courtyard to experience the world outside her castle. Each member of the medieval village wants to gain favour with the King and Queen. To do this they must please the sweet princess with their unique talents and treasures.

You are taking on a very important role as a member of this medieval society and need to educate the princess on what you do and why you are important to her kingdom.  During a very exciting Medieval Fair you will be able to introduce yourself and your craft to Princess Elise.

Task:

What product(s) will I be creating?

Together with a fellow resident you will be developing an important part of a Medieval village. You will be given a section of the wall that you will use to recreate the portion of the village that your character represents. You will also be creating a short advertisement which will appear in the local advertisement page. Your poster board creation will stretch from ceiling to floor and be about 1 metre wide. On the top of this canvas you will create a market place banner to identify your craft and below, a billboard using pictures and words to help explain your role in medieval society. You may also wish to use a 1 metre area in front of the visual story to display things that you have found, created or rehearsed to please the princess.

Remember: You must do your best to be in character. Choose a name and personality for your character that would be historically accurate.

  • Medieval Social Class

  • Trades and talents of Medieval society

  • Character personalities and costumes

You have had an opportunity to:

  • use your artistic creativity

  • become a new character

  • challenge yourself

Take the self evaluation above to see how you think you did. Make sure that you share your ideas and challenges with your partner and teacher.
