Introduction

You are going to do a webquest on the Fathers of Confederation in order to produce biographical posters.

You will be the personal biographer for this one delegate. Your posters will act as museum pieces for other children in the school.

You will research the father you are assigned as well as their native province and use this information to create several sections of your poster.

Your focus will be on Confederation; your Father's view and their province's view. In other words, what role did your Father play in Confederation and how was it shaped by the view of the province?

The Task

As a biographer, you will research the life and times of your Father and their province as it relates to Confederation.

Then organize this information using graphics and text.

The information you gather, will be used to design a poster, on your Father of Confederation and their province.

This will be presented to the class and shared in the Grade 8 Class Confederation Museum.

You need to know about your Father of Confederation: You need to know about your Province/Territory:

  • family
  • view on confederation
  • interesting facts

  • province name
  • pros and cons for Confederation
  • when they joined, under what terms they joined
  • mention other Fathers that represented this province
  • interesting facts.
Organize this information in a table (pros/cons) and point form.

3. Things to include on your poster:

Part 1A: Father of Confederation Fact Sheet (picture of your Father of Confederation, full name, birth/death, family members...)

Part 1B: Biographical information on Father of Confederation in paragraph format

Part 2A: Province Identification: Map, Name of province, Symbols of the province, year they joined Confederation.

Part 2B: Brief written summary of historical information about the province. (Members of the same province can have the same information.)

Part 3: A Re-created Historic Document (news clipping, editorial, advertisement, menu, schedule, letter from conference participant...)

Conclusion

I hope that you have found your time as an employee of the Grade 8 Confederation Museum, to be both fun and educational.

By completing this assignment you will have learned in depth about Confederation, how each province decided to create a country and the major role the Fathers played to make this happen.

You then used this information to create posters so that others can use your work to find out more on this topic.
