The Clever Sheep

As a teacher who has used media and other communications technologies to engage learners for more than 20 years, The Clever Sheep blog offers opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations with teachers who see themselves as learners. The audience for my public learning venture continues to grow!

And... I just found out I've been nominated for an EduBlog Award!

A Networked Learner

Whether joining colleagues from around the world for the Connectivism and Connective Knowledge massively open online course, attending lectures in Second Life, or interacting with members of my personal learning network, the educators I connect with are global, diverse and connected.

Learning "on the Edge"

The leading edge of communication technology is always changing. Staying current is much easier when you have annual opportunities to teach about technology... while using technology!

Computers in the Classroom, (Part 1, Part 2 and Specialist sections) is the optimal place to explore online learning issues with others interested in staying on the cutting edge.

Learning Management Pilot & Consultant

As a teacher with UWO since 2001, I've used no less than four different learning management systems. An early adopter, my experiences have led to me acting as pilot for the "Idea Construction Zone" and "e-Campus 3", both of which have helped to develop the rich environment for the UWO's online education offerings.

PD via Podcasting

Whether producing Teacher 2.0 podcasts, or downloading free professional development, embracing the technology of the 21st century is a necessary skill if you expect to educate educators!

As a learner, I use podcasts to engage in conversations with educators from around the world.

Project Engage!

Sample Podcast "Julie's Robo-Surgery Co-op"
Running time 4:49 (5.4 MB)

"I spent a morning touring the JP II Co-op Fair engaging in conversations about work placements with many students. For me, the most interesting placement had to be Julie's placement at the C-STAR robotic surgery lab at University Hospital."

Web 2.0

The future of the World Wide Web is all about collaboration and user-generated content. When teaching the students and teachers of today we need to leverage similar content creation tools to ensure this media savvy generation has first hand experience creating and validating content.

Professional Learning Communities

Online tools I maintain like the Golden Fleece Wiki, developed to encourage thinking about 21st Century Skills for Educators, are helping a community of educators to think about how we can harness present day tools to prepare students for a rapidly evolving future.

Resources for e-Learning, electronic portfolios, iPhone apps and workshop resources like Let's Ban Chalk continue to engage teacher participants from around the globe.

P.C. & Macintosh

Working in both Macintosh and P.C. environments over the past 20 years, makes me uniquely able to address compatibility issues with a wide range of learning tools.

As Tools Evolve, So Must Educators

This image created by Alec Couros is a powerful representation of the many channels I use in my personal and professional learning. As tools continue to emerge, I will continue to assess their appropriateness for engaging and teaching 21st century learners, be they students or teachers.
