Telementoring

Working with David Neils and Zach Burson at the International Telementor Centre at Colorado State University, and engaging 'filtered email' via the brand new 'ePals' we engaged students in unique learning projects.

Building relationships with mentors in New York City and Southern California, students participated in collaborative projects called 'Change Agent' & 'Independent Learner'.

StarBase

Using Web resources, flight simulation software, and 'rocket construction materials'; grade 5/6 students saw practical hands-on experiences replace their science textbooks in what some students called their 'Best classroom experiences... Ever!"

Engaging partners like the Garrison Community Council, Diamond Aircraft and Empire Aviation resulted in amazing first hand tours. After building their own model airplanes, students saw first hand how real airplanes are built; flew training simulators; and handled the controls in the cockpit of numerous aircraft.

Council of All Beings

"Most people are familiar with the United Nations, a gathering of representatives from the nations of the world, who meet to address global needs. What would happen if all of the beings on the planet Earth could have such representation at a Council of All Beings?"

We found out first hand when students from each of the LDCSB elementary schools participated in the launch of our annual Council of All Beings. Students debated numerous motions before adopting the Manifesto of Southwestern Ontario Beings.

Robotics Challenge

Beyond teaching other West Region educators how to harness the power of Lego Robotics; I worked in partnership with one of my Thames Valley D.S.B. trainees to put on a regional robotics competition that took place on a scale model of the International Space Station!

Digital Academy

What happens when you put multimedia technology and computers into the hands of bright learners?

Movie-making;

online game shows;
puzzle creation;
problem solving;
virtual reality;
and lots of other great stuff!

Online Forums

When you are separated by distance, it doesn't mean you have to learn independently. Hosting discussions at from the Centre for Excellence, we brought together students and online guests to talk about all manner of subjects. Even back in 2000-2001, we had students from different school boards, meeting virtually with guests like Dr. William Willmore, Heart surgeon and researcher who met us LIVE from Harvard University.

Project F.I.V.E.

In one large collaborative project, 47 students representing 18 different schools, built a Futuristic Interactive Virtual Environment that was shared via the World Wide Web and produced for all participants on CD.
