OERB: BASIC SEARCH

OERB Welcome Page

Users have the option to SEARCH or to SHARE.

In Searching, there are over 6000 resources (as of Sept. 2007), and there are a few tricks worth knowing to allow users to quickly and efficiently locate appropriate learning objects.

In order to Share a resource with the OERB, you'll need to register as a contributer in order to gain access to the 'contributors gateway'.

"How to..." Resources
Short movies and support documents are hosted on the OERB site that demonstrate how to use this evolving resource.

Basic Search

Add up to 10 keywords to the search window and click the 'search' button. Click the 'Search' button to return relevent results.

On each page, an instruction menu on the left, provides additional user support.

Sorting the Results

Users can either review the metadata supporting a specific resource, or they can download the resource. If the resource is viewable in a web browser, clicking the document name, will open the resource in the browser.

Note: the easiest way to return to a resource is to record the Resource Bank ID # (e.g., ELO1033450)

This ID # can be shared with others who can then put this number into the search box to quickly locate or return to this learning resource.

Sorting Results

By default, the OERB sorts results by date, with the most recently uploaded resources appearing first. You can resort the results ascending/descending by alphanumeric title or by date.

Search Tips

Looking for Units for Credit Recovery
Full Units are available for a wide variety of courses. Include the course name and unit number, e.g., ENG2P ‘Unit 3’ or 'ENG2P 'entire unit'

If you can't find what you want, consider making a contribution that helps fill the gaps in the resource bank!

Search by ELO Number

The most specific search results when you record a specific ELO number in the search field. In such searches, only the unique resource with the matching number will be found.

It is recommended that teachers record the numbers of exemplary learning objects that they would like to revisit.
