Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2008/2009 school year at St. Francis Catholic Elementary School. At St. Francis our school motto is Work Hard : Be Kind. We believe that this simple statement embodies all that we are called to be as a Catholic School Community.

As a faith community we firmly believe that:

• children are sacred creations of God. As a Catholic school community – school, home and parish – we must provide creative opportunities for children to learn and apply knowledge and skills in ways that draw them closer to God and one another;

• a safe, orderly and caring learning environment promotes feelings of self-worth and school pride;

• all children want to and can:

- be loved and respected, while showing love and respect for themselves and others;

- be successful learners, achieving their highest potential;

- cooperate with others to achieve a common goal;

- make good decisions, taking responsibility for their actions;

• educating children is a shared vocation. Effective school communities work collaboratively to maintain high standards of excellence, and are committed to continuous improvement.

As we journey through this school year may we experience the joy of learning and discovery with our children, may we fully embrace God’s love and compassion and may we be filled with a sense of solidarity as we join others to provide a faith-filled learning experience for all students.
