Code of Conduct
Guiding Principles
In keeping with the Safe Schools Act and the new provincial Code of Conduct, schools within the London district Catholic School Board continue to promote an environment, which instills respect, responsibility and safety. These values along with those of justice, integrity and accountability are consistent with the Gospel values taught in our schools. Central to the vision of a Catholic education is a very strong emphasis on respect for oneself, others and the traditions of our Catholic faith.
The London District Catholic School Board takes pride in ensuring that student learning and teaching take place in a non-threatening environment and one where learning takes place in an atmosphere of mutual respect, dignity and trust.
All participants involved in our London District Catholic School system – students, parents, guardians, volunteers, teachers and other staff members – are included in this Code of Conduct whether they are on school property, on school buses or at school authorized events or activities.
The new Code of Conduct sets clear standards for behaviour and outlines mandatory consequences for students not complying with these standards. The code is based on the following guiding principles:
All members of the London District Catholic School Board (students, parents, guardians, volunteers, teachers, other staff members and especially persons in positions of authority) are to be treated with respect and dignity whether they are on school property, on school buses or at school-authorized events or activities.
Appropriate participation in the civic life of the school community promotes responsible citizenship. Active and engaged citizens are award of their rights and accept responsibility for protecting their rights and the rights of others.
Members of the school community are expected to use non-violent means to resolve conflict.
The possession, use of threatened use of any object to injure another person endangers the safety of oneself and others.
Schools will work co-operatively with police, drug and alcohol agencies to promote prevention strategies and, where necessary, respond to school members who are in possession of, or under the influence of, alcohol or illegal drugs.
Insults, disrespect, and other hurtful acts disrupt learning and teaching in a school community. Members of the school community have a responsibility to maintain and environment where conflict and difference can be addressed in a manner characterized by respect and civility.
