Introduction

High achievement is the goal for all students. Teachers, students, and parents are expected to work together to help meet the expectations specified.

"Students in schools across Ontario require consistent, challenging programs that will capture their interest and prepare them for a lifetime of learning. They require knowledge and skills that will help them compete in a global economy and allow them to lead lives of integrity and satisfaction both as citizens and individuals. The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1 -8 outlines the knowledge, skills, and high standards of learning required to meet these goals." (Ontario Curriculum 1997)

Philosophy

A successful homework policy requires close cooperation between the teacher, parent and child. A gradual introduction form the onset of a student's educational experience will provide continuity for good study habits; foster independence, responsibility and self direction, time management; and deepen skills and knowledge. St. Mark Catholic School recognizes that children need free time each day independent of school assignments and responsibilities, in order to pursue activities of importance to the child and parents.

Homework is most successful when the child takes pride in his/her work and the parents provide a favorable environment, assistance, and supervision.
