Patron Saint of grocers, mariners, paratroopers, police and sickness.
St. Michael is one
of three Archangels. He is considered the leader of God’s
Army (good angels) in their triumph in heaven over the powers
of evil. He has been especially honored and invoked as patron
and protector by the Church from the time of the Apostles.
Four times his name
is recorded in the scriptures:
Old Testament (Daniel)
New Testament (Jude, Revelation)
The name Michael
is Hebrew for "Who is like God?"
Prayer of St.
Michael
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
