Student Success at STA… from the desk of Mrs. Gorski
As the Student Success Teacher to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary, I look forward to working with your son or daughter to ensure they all have the same opportunity and support they need in order to successfully make their way through grades 9 to 12 in order to achieve their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and become successful adults in our community.
Each teenager has his or her own unique interests, goals and strengths and it is our goal to implement a variety of initiatives that are aimed at engaging all students who might be considered “at-risk” of not successfully completing a secondary school program. All of these initiatives are to address the areas in which intervention is needed to promote student achievement (especially in the area of numeracy and literacy). These areas include:
- Increased contact with parents
- Monitor student attendance and absences
- Monitor student progress through homework, assessments, and discussions with the classroom teacher
- Advocate for at-risk students and parents within the school community
- Leading a success team of professionals who meet regularly to develop action plans for students at risk
- Be available to assist, help and advise students
Finally, it is our hope that the transition from elementary to secondary will be a smooth and successful transition and that each student will find their place on the road to a successful experience both academically and personally here at STA.
