The Arts
Our Philosophy:
The teachers in the Fine Arts Department at St Thomas Aquinas are interested in YOU! Our goal is to help you find the area of the Arts where you can be most successful so that your high school experience is an enjoyable and memorable one. No prior experience is necessary to become a strong participant in the STA Arts community, and our facilities and instruments are provided free of charge.
Courses:
We offer courses at all grade levels in Instrumental Music, Drama, and Visual Arts. We also offer Vocal Music from Grade Ten to Grade Twelve, and four specialized courses at the Grade Eleven and Twelve levels - Technical Theatre, Stage (Jazz) Band, Vocal Jazz, and Photography.
Productions:
Students in each of the Arts prepare a variety of productions in their subject area and also work together on larger projects such as our annual School Show, Cabaret (an evening variety show of student talent), Lunchapalooza (a lunch hour rock concert), Battle of the Bands, Entertainment Assemblies in December and June, and a Year End Art show.
Some people love to perform, while others find they are most comfortable behind the scenes - our courses will prepare you to do both! When we put on a school show or assembly, all the performers, MCs, sound and lighting board operators, and crew members are STA Arts students. Many of our students are active in more than one Art and in a variety of roles, both on and off the stage. We take great pride in watching our students develop their talents and technical abilities over the course of their high school careers.
